Our roving reporter has been out to the Pontcysyllte aqueduct (before you
ask, it’s pronounced Pontky Silty).  A tremendous feat of engineering opened
in 1805, crossing 126 feet above the river Dee in wonderful countryside, it
is still in use today.  Walking over it gives fantastic views down to the
river below.  The adjacent Trevor basin, home to the Anglo Welsh boat hire
company, is always a hive of activity even in winter.  All just 20 miles
from the Sandstone Trail cottages.
